Without music, ballroom dancing does not exist. If you ask Google, ‘what is dance?’ It gives you a definition of ‘dance.’ The first definition Google gives is “move rhythmically to music, typically following a set sequence of steps.” You move your body to the music and take steps. Ballroom dance has many clearly defined movements and steps. Different styles of dance have evolved from different types of music. Some dances, such as waltz and foxtrot, are danced to smooth and flowy music. On the other hand, samba and cha cha are danced to very rhythmical tunes with strong beats. As musicality is an important part of dance, understanding music and its rhythm will help you to become a better dancer.
Where Can I Find Good Ballroom Dance Music?
Anywhere! You can find good ballroom dance music on Youtube. Professional ballroom DJ will put out playlists that have many current hits. Those are fun to listen to. You will be surprised to find some creative remixes. This is one of the examples of the work by a ballroom music DJ. One of my favorites is a remix of Gangsta’s Paradise, originally sung by Coolio. The talented Postmodern Jukebox turned a rap song into a song you can dance foxtrot to.
